The Online Resource for Taiwan's Quality Agriculture

Throughout most warm and temperate marine regions of the world, Taiwan groupers are highly valued for food. And several grouper species have been raised on a commercial scale. Taiwan grouper’s research breakthroughs in grouper aquaculture have given the country a distinctive edge in this industry. At present, Taiwan leads the world in the production of farmed Taiwan groupers.

Moreover, the robust supply chain enables Taiwan to supply farmed Taiwan groupers all year round.

Taiwan is actively engaged in the research and development on all stages of grouper aquaculture through a tripartite cooperation among the government agencies, the business sector and the research community. Substantial results have been achieved in the establishment of specific pathogen free (SPF) aquaculture, broodstock development, production of fingerlings, development of formulated feeds, and disease control. In addition, live fish export is made possible by the development of innovative shipping technology to meet overseas Chinese consumers’ increasing crave for fresh and tasty Taiwan groupers.

Taiwan mainly exports the giant grouper, which is also known as the brindle bass, brown spotted cod or bumblebee grouper, of the family Serranidae. Giant grouper is the largest in size among all species of groupers, thus dubbed as the king of Taiwan grouper. Its mild, white succulent meat resembles Atlantic cod fish. Giant grouper is one of Taiwan's true seafood all-stars with so many recipe presentations. It can be used in almost any seafood recipe and its unique flavor comes out beautifully with a touch of mild seasoning and fresh herbs. Most popular servings of the Taiwan grouper in Taiwan are steamed, salt grilled, or in soup. Giant grouper has also become the choice of people concerned with healthy eating because it is nutritious in addition to being delicious. Taiwan grouper is a rich source of protein, collagen, omega-3-fatty acids, calcium and phosphorus.
